How I became a good member of the community

It is a little known fact that I am a member of Calhoun college. I don’t live there, I don’t eat there, and I pretty much make all my Calhoun friends come to me. So much am I out of touch with Calhoun that I’ve never actually been to its buttery, that place in the basement where foods fry for the enjoyment of essay-writing, tired Yalies. Myself not a huge fan of fried foods, I decided to contribute to the community of Calhoun by making a weekly batch of fresh baked goods, filled with good ingredients, everything is from made scratch and sold at a price that is meant to cover the cost (a brownie for a dollar, yes). Yesterday was the first day of this endeavor, and it was endlessly gratifying. Spending Sunday morning in my kitchen baking (and Sunday afternoon in the downtown soup kitchen cooking) is probably the best form of therapy I could imagine. Plus, the joy on people’s face when they eat a peanut butter pie (which I’ve failed to photograph) is beyond words. A huge thank you to everyone who came down to the buttery last night, the food was mostly gone by 11pm, which made my day. Come back tonight for leftovers, and next Sunday for a new batch.

All three recipes came from Cooking Light, which has proved completely foolproof. No one would have guessed these were light, seriously.
